As for surrendering, there is none. This was a purposeful design choice that the community is a little split on. Personally, I like it since it forces you to play out a good game.

If there has been a disconnect, albeit intentionally or due to network errors, only the team with the disconnected player can instantly resume the match. The enemy team without any disconnects can resume the game after 30 seconds. With Dota 2 it's difficult to go AFK since the game will give an abandon for not gaining XP for over a 5-minute period. This means that when something happens, players do need to pause the game or risk losing a lot of points to their behavior score.

Sadly, this means if someone keeps unpausing the game then there's not much anyone can do other than report them at the end of the game. A player who abandons the game will have their gold taken and distributed to the rest of the team along with their passive gold gain. It's possible to 'cheat' the system if they stand near a tower to keep grinding XP. In this case, a player on the opposing team might offer to sit until they return and do the same thing by waiting near a tower to allow the game to be played 4v4 for a time.

This isn't a requirement and most players aren't willing to do this very often as it could get them reported too. What are the rules for Pausing There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to pausing Dota 2. For PvE games, when it's unpaused there's no countdown and it starts again immediately.

With PvP games, there's a short 3-second countdown so no one is taken by surprise with it. If the missing player rejoins then the game can be continued as normal after a short countdown however, the game can be started again instantly by someone on that team. Someone on the other team can also unpause the game after 30 seconds has passed.

While the team missing a player can't pause the game forever, each player on the team can press Pause once each one runs out. The player reconnected after 4 of those 5 minutes passed, and the game lasted 49 minutes of play time. So, in the end, the guy disconnected for a grand total of about 14 minutes and we spent 9 minutes on pause during which we couldn't do anything about it. Seriously, the disconnect timer should continue ticking down even if players pause, because being on pause for 9 minutes is really annoying.

If you disconnect for more than 5 minutes, that's entirely your problem, not the rest of the people's fault and have them waste 10 minutes of their lives Also, in my opinion, if you spend all your "pause time" at beginning of game, you should never get it back.

That means, spend it wisely to not waste time of players in the game. That also means that I think players can pause the game for far too long in a game. This is an online game, not a single-player game. We all have life obligations, but if you think they might take more than 5 minutes, refrain from playing.

Either make the timer continue to tick down or limit the pauses to 3 or 4 per team. Or make it so you cannot pause again for several minutes teamwide after each pause.

Waiting 15 minutes is absurd. I suggest a total group of team pauses of perhaps 3 or 4, where the team cannot pause for several minutes in between each pause. That should be sufficient. In addition to this, give a minimum timer before a person can unpause, so if two people hit pause at the same time, it isn't accidently unpaused. I'd think that would fix all of the problems. Match id: Paused for a while due to some guy who disconnected. Then threatened us with "Pause strat" once our "pushing strat" proved to be successful, and paused. People who lose get mad and chain-pause. We were planning on doing another game after that one but we couldn't because of that. This is becoming a real problem, please, developpers, do something about this. And I don't see people who buy this game once it goes out liking it either. Suggestions: - Make it so the disconnect timer ticks down even when the game is paused, that would prevent a good proportion of wasted time.
